The tradition heralds the coming of Spring, the end of that soul crushing winter we are currently balls deep in.
Historically the fires were the burning of the carpenters candles, done at a time when the oppressive darkness of winter was passed and they no longer needed.
Today they are just done to look awesome, there are fireworks and people wearing strange clothes.
There are thirty foot high statues on fire.
I love fire.
The streets are going to be swollen with people, spirits are going to be unbelievably high, sangria is going to filtered onto our livers at a dangerously high rate.
